Actors for Refugees is no more ...

Not, at least, in its original form. While our “shows” program has come to an end, the difficulties being experienced by refugees and asylum seekers in the Australian community are far from over. If you would like to know more, or do more, the Asylum Seekers Resource Centre and A Just Australia will welcome your help, support and understanding.

This site remains as a reminder of some things many people have done. It has been an extraordinary, and rewarding (to the soul) ride. Thanks to all.

Artists have a history of speaking out against the abuse of human rights throughout the world. Actors, at their best, bring to life stories that unite us as human beings and that transcend political agendas. Actors for Refugees (AfR) is an informal network of actors ready to use their performance skills and their public profiles to tell the stories of people fleeing terrible conditions to seek shelter in Australia.

"Stark and beautiful, Rainbow Bird is a book of rare insight. More than a children’s book, or an art book, this is a work of pain, hope, and simple, profound truth." (from Australians Against Racism)
"Watching Brief is his argument for a new approach to human rights policy. Julian Burnside has produced a brief that deserves a wide audience and careful judgement." 'Age' review
